Your life goal

In the first chapter of this beautiful love song we saw where the Shulamite maiden stated her intention (Song of Sol. 1:2–4). She laid out the goal and theme of her life on earth. She desired an intimate relationship with him whose love was better to her than the best wine of the world, and she desired to run in ministry so that she might impart this reality to others. From Song of Solomon 1:5 until the very end in Song of Solomon 8:14, we trace the maiden’s spiritual journey in her progression of passion for her beloved king.

Whatever your vocation may be, you must align your life vision with this cry: to be drawn to Jesus in intimacy and then to run with Him in ministry to others. Whether you are a medical doctor, a schoolteacher, a preacher, a truck driver, a homeschooling mom— you must set your heart to know and worship God in an intimate way and be one who ministers God’s grace to people.

It’s important that you have goals. However, you must have one primary life goal that is bigger than all your other goals. If you do not know what your life goal is, ask the Lord to show you. Ask Him to draw you into intimacy with Him, then to empower you in ministry in any way that He desires. Is your spirit longing for a new awakening to the satisfying love of God? Do you want to know Him intimately?

O Lord, we have seen just a little bit of Your majesty. The beauty of who You are and what You do is capturing our hearts. From this point on I want my life to be one unbroken journey of progression in holy passion. Draw me, Lord. Draw me to Your glorious self. I don’t want to be at a distance. I want You, no matter what it costs me. Draw me, Jesus, and I will run after You!

And as I run, I will learn to mature in obedience. But how?
